Hey I'm Maria Jose
I am a designer, an illustrator, a teacher and an entrepreneur from Lima, Peru. I am also a big Studio Ghibli and Harry Potter fan, an obsessive stationery collector and a happy globe-trotter. I love color, salchipapas, and laugh until my stomach hurts.
I studied Audiovisual Communication in the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, in the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia (Spain) and Classical Animation in Vancouver Film School (Canada). Currently I am studying an Erasmus Mundus Master in Children's Literature, Media and Culture in the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), Aarhus University (Denmark) and University of Wroclaw (Poland).
A few years ago I opened MJ Campos, a studio specialized in audiovisual and design creation to inspire children, families and women in their creative journey. I am interested in telling fun stories about identity, cultural heritage and nature through paper and screen.
Clients and collaborators
I love to be involved in design and illustration projects filled with energy and passion to live creatively. Some of my clients and entities with whom I have collaborated are the following:
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comission, CPSC (USA), Oncology Consultants (USA), Softrack Systems Inc. (Canada), Clínica Delgado, Canal IPe, Isla Films, Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru [PUCP], EMILIMA, Archivo General de la Nacion, UNESCO, Ministerio de Educacion, Universidad Nacional Tecnologica de Lima Sur [Untels].
Talks and participations
I have participated in conferences and academic papers about Japanese animation .
I am an animation and design teacher, and an academic who studies topics related to animation. My passion for Studio Ghibli took me to write my thesis about the tree in Hayao Miyazaki. You can read my thesis here (in Spanish).
Moreover, I have been present in important festivals and international workshops.
